Winter Decorating Ideas for your home in January after the holidays are over. Make your home feel warm and cozy for the winter months with these simple ideas.
Winter is my favorite season. I know that’s not a popular opinion. But, it’s true. And creating a cozy January winter home is one of my favorite things about the season.
Winter is a time to slow down. It’s nature’s way of taking a break. Plants are dormant, many animals hibernate and sometimes it can feel good to do the same.
After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, taking it slow and reevaluating goals in January (both personally and for your home) can be one of the best ways to start the new year.
I’ll share a few winter decorating ideas for January and how I prepare my home for the year ahead and seasons to come. And be sure to visit the 12 other bloggers sharing their winter decor ideas as well. You are sure to be inspired!
Winter Decorating Ideas and Tips for January
Pare down your decor
Winter is a great time to clean out cabinets, empty bins and take stock of what you have on hand. And ask yourself what you want to keep and what you are willing to let go of.
Here are some organizing ideas for January that I tackle every year.
How To Organize Kitchen Drawers
Neutral Decor Idea for Winter
Because the holiday season is filled with so much visual stimuli, it can be a good idea to take on a more neutral decorating theme for winter. I tend to choose soft neutrals and minimal prints for winter.
Add textures
And just because your winter decor may be neutral, that doesn’t mean it’s boring. Add in textures, subtle prints and lots of layers to make your home feel cozy and warm.
I love to use creamy, fluffy textures like this Chunky Knit Wreath to add a warm element. And wreaths don’t have to be used just on your front door. You can place them on interior doors, mirrors, cabinets or over artwork.
Twinkle lights
Sometimes it can feel harsh and sad to let go of the glow of the holidays. I tend to keep a few twinkle lights up for the first few weeks after Christmas. It makes the transition a little less painful and adds a bit of brightness to January.
I also add lots of candles. Both for the scent and the ambiance.
Winter Decor
Since it is still January and winter, there are some “holiday” decorations that I leave out. This collection of white snowy trees makes an appearance every January and I love how they give a nod to the season.
