I’m so excited to share with you my Modern Holiday Mantel that has a very fun vintage twist! I kept things light and bright with a big dose of color. Come take a peek!
Christmas is a fun time to get creative with your decor. You can change up the entire feel and look in a room by adding festive decorations!
Of course it’s just as wonderful to keep the look consistent in your home and just add some sparkly and pretty touches for the holidays.
Whichever route you take, have fun! If decorating is your jam, then go crazy. If the thought of decorating for the holidays makes you anxious, don’t overthink it. There really is no right or wrong way to decorate for the holidays!
The holidays are all about creating those warm and fuzzy memories. And your decorations definitely don’t have to be perfect to do that!
Modern Holiday Mantel
I want to share with you my modern holiday mantel. I am in the “decorating is my jam” column, so creating a fun and new look each year is something I look forward to! And I hope I can inspire some of you in the process.
This year I wanted our holiday home to feel cheerful and sparkly. I also wanted to let my natural holiday style shine through. I have always decorated our home with vintage treasures. Items I have picked up at flea markets and things that remind me of Christmas past.
Last year I tried something different and went with a copper and blush theme. I loved it at the time, but looking back it was just too much. They say that hindsight is 20/20 right?
So, even at the end of the holiday season last year I knew I wanted to get back to what I loved and use all my vintage treasures for our holiday decorations. I needed more pops of holiday color!
Fireplace Christmas Decor Idea
This modern holiday mantel is equal parts modern and vintage. It definitely has a whimsical feel to it.
I layered one of my holiday Lindsay Letters canvases over my new mirror. I love the combination so much!
This beautiful canvas has the lyrics from one of my favorite Nat King Cole Christmas carols on it. I have had this piece for about 5 years and I reuse it every year! It played center stage on my holiday mantel 2 years ago as well.
I added in some of bottlebrush trees to fill in the gaps between the art and the edge of the mantel.
I have amassed quite the collection of these bottlebrush trees over the year. It started before I was even married. I created a beautiful tablescape involving these trees, some vintage silver and an antique mirror. Staged in my first condo that I owned as a single girl, I loved it! See, my love for decorating goes way back!

Christmas Mantel Garland Hack
I added my favorite faux garland to the top of this modern holiday mantel. Now, I absolutely LOVE fresh garland. And I prefer it over faux any day, but it dries out in about 24 hours and turns brown. No bueno for inside the house!
So, a few years ago I found this incredibly real looking faux garland and each year I purchase one more when it goes on sale.
Let me tell you how I took this beautiful garland and made it a little more magnificent!
I went outside and cut some cedar boughs from our trees that line the fence. I cut about 10 small branches (about 8-12 inches long) from the back of the tree that faces the fence.
Then I wove these boughs in between the faux garland to give it a little more drape and depth. Then I added in a few stems of eucalyptus as well. I love how the eucalyptus adds another color.
So, the fresh cedar will dry out in a week or so and I will cut some more closer to the holiday or when we have guests over. It’s much easier than trying to keep up with a real garland!
I used this garland hack for my Vintage Modern Christmas Table too! You can really see the impact it made there with my before and after pics!
Holiday Mantel Stockings
This year is the first year in a long time that I have purchased new stockings. We have used the same assortment of cream woven stockings for a few years now.
But when I saw these fun and colorful stockings I fell in love! I even love that they have each persons initials. The colors were perfect to add to this modern holiday mantel.
I love how they flank the fireplace and add a big dose of holiday style to my otherwise white house!
Stay tuned for more of my vintage modern Christmas home tour in the next 2 weeks. I can’t wait to share it all with you! I am even sharing my daughters room all decked for the holidays.
