Make this minimalist DIY Winter Village Wreath to add to your holiday decor. A mix of vintage and modern styles makes this unique.
Whimsical Winter Village Wreath
The past two years my Winter Village wreaths have gone viral on Pinterest. So, to change up this very popular DIY project, I made one using a grapevine wreath, some faux cedar sprigs and a cute white glittery Putz house.
Here are my past winter wreaths in case you want to revisit and see how I am switching it up for 2020:
Bottlebrush Tree Christmas Wreath
I love how vintage and nostalgic these wreaths are. The Putz houses add a timeless charm and who can say no to the glittery snow topped roof, right?
I even added some vintage velvet ribbon to the bottom to soften the look of the grapevine and cedar wreath. My favorite ribbon is from this shop on Etsy.
Repurpose An Old Wreath To Make A New One!
This year I have really been trying to cut back on the clutter and extra “stuff”. I have been repurposing all my old wreaths and making them into something new. It has been quite fun to do!
I took a 12″ grapevine wreath form that has been sitting around forever waiting for the perfect craft project. Now, you could totally use any size for this winter village wreath, but this is what I had on hand.
Then, I had this faux cedar wreath from Target that had lost its charm on me. I pulled some of the cedar sprigs out of it and reused them to make this fun Winter Village Wreath.
See, making a new DIY wreath doesn’t always require an expensive trip to the craft store. Take a look around at what you have and reimagine a previously boring wreath into something new!
The other supplies used for this wreath I had left over from my Winter Pom Pom Wreath. I will link all the supplies for you below.
How To Make A Christmas Wreath With Putz House
Here’s how I made this cute Winter Village Wreath.
Supplies needed:
- Grapevine Wreath Form (I used 12″ but you can use any size)
- Putz House (to make this a true village you could do 3 smaller houses)
- Bottlebrush Trees
- Faux Cedar Sprigs
- Ribbon
- Glue Gun
Assembly Instructions
The first step is to insert the cedar sprigs into the wreath form. I wanted to create a demi minimalist look, so I inserted the sprigs halfway up the wreath and stopped there.
Next, place your putz house on the wreath. It took some finagling, but I was able to create a ledge on the wreath where the house could sit. And a whole lot of hot glue was involved, lol!
Secure the house to the wreath form with the hot glue and hold in place until dry. Next, glue the bottle brush trees to the wreath where you want them to sit.
And finally, if you like, attach some ribbon. I simply wove the two strands of ribbon through one of the vines at the bottom and tied in a loose knot.
To secure the winter village wreath to my picture, I used some fishing line. Loop it through one of the branches on the wreath and then over the top of the picture and hook the fishing line on the nail.
Where to Get Winter Village Houses
These cute little putz houses are so fun to use for holiday decorations but they can be quite hard to find.
The ones that I have used in all of my projects have come from a kit. You can purchase the kit and make your own for under $20 (and about 3 hours of labor, lol). It really is quite a process but the result is beautiful.
Here is the link to the Etsy shop where I have purchased my Putz house kits: Handmade Putz Holiday Houses.
