Do you update your decor for the seasons? I have made a few changes for summer. Come on in and I’ll show you my light and bright coastal style summer home tour!
I am also joining 40 bloggers to share our spring decorating ideas! If you came over from Lemon Thistle thank you for coming by! Doesn’t Colleen have the best ideas? I just love her decor style.
If you are new here, welcome! I am Ashley, wife and mom to two young kids. We live in the suburbs of San Francisco and we have been updating our California ranch since we moved in 9 years ago. My husband is a general contractor – follow along as we tackle our home renovation one project at a time!
Coastal Style Summer Home Tour
I don’t know about you, but my surroundings definitely impact my overall mood. That’s why I like to update my home for each season.
For the fall, I usually add lots of textures and layers for creating a welcoming nest. In the winter it’s all about cozy neutrals that make me feel warm and safe. In the spring I feel it’s important to bring in some greenery and lightness. And in the summer I love to infuse a beachy coastal style to my home.

Beachy Living Room
So, for summer this year, I wanted to bring a coastal and effortless style to my home. Because I stick to my design “rule” about purchasing my furnishings in neutrals, it’s easy to switch out pillows and accessories to change the look in this room.

I swapped out the throw pillows in my living room for these beautiful tie dye linen pillows and striped throw from House of Cindy. Nothing says summer more than tie dye and linen right?
A quick and easy update I made for summer was creating this hat wall. I pulled all the sunhats out of my closet and hung them on the wall!
And I used command strip hooks for an easy and no-commitment look that I feel is perfect for summer! I mean, talk about coastal style summer home!
So, when updating your home for the new season remember, each change doesn’t have to cost anything. It’s about shopping your home and finding items that you already own and repurposing them or moving them from one room to another. It’s amazing how you can change the entire look of a room just by switching the accessories!
Coastal Style Shelf Styling
The other main area of my living room that gets styled for each season are these shelves. I normally don’t photograph them because of the big black box that sits in the middle, but I wanted you to see how easy it is to create a fun update for summer.
I gathered together all my blue and white objects along with two photos that remind me our trip to London last summer. And this fern is really loving this spot on the shelf where it gets lots of afternoon light!
Real greenery is one of my favorite and easiest ways to decorate! I have a lot of faux greenery too because of my black thumb and tendency to neglect the plants in my house. In each of the pictures above there is a real fern and a fake fern. Can you spot the difference?!
