My Moody Fall Mantel

This year, I am bringing the feeling of fall into my home by using color, textures and patterns. There are no pumpkins on display…yet. And there might not be at all this year. Time will tell! But for now, I am loving these moodier, warmer tones that bring that feeling of fall and autumn into my home. 

Most years, I decorate my mantel for fall with pumpkins, leaves, wheat and other traditional autumn elements. And it seems that each year my approach becomes simpler and less fussy.

Rustic Early Fall Mantel

This year, when I first looked at my fall decor bins, I felt a bit overwhelmed. So, I started off slowly. I changed out the pillows on our sofa to ones with softer, warmer hues. I am a bit obsessed with this floral pillow right now.

Next, I added some layered artwork to the mantel for fall. I love the contrast against our newly painted shiplap wall. (Paint color is Studio Green by Farrow & Ball). Then, flanked on the other side of the mantelpiece is this DIY Dried Floral Arrangement that I made a few weeks ago.

I love that this arrangement will last through the whole season (and longer)! You can get the full tutorial on how you can make one HERE.

And adding in a few candlesticks and votives to light in the evenings definitely brings that cozy fall vibe into this space.

For now, this moody fall mantel suits me just fine and reminds me a bit of a posh library. I can’t wait to curl up by the fire and enjoy the cool crisp autumn weather. But, it’s still 95 here in California.
