This fall tablescape is set for a cozy yet simplified gathering. A beautiful Stewart Tartan plaid is used as a tablecloth to create a cozy fall table to enjoy time with friends and family.
I don’t know about you, but this fall I am ready to tuck in and spend more time at home.
I mean, not that we haven’t spent the better part of 2020 at home, but there’s something about fall that makes me want to cozy up and nest a bit more than usual.
And this fall I am leaning towards simplicity and neutral surroundings filled with cozy texture.
My Scotland Inspired Fall Tablescape
This fall tablescape is a true representation of what I am craving right now. Simple, neutral and cozy surroundings that make me feel at peace.
I picked up this beautiful wool tartan blanket last year on the most epic girls trip to Scotland and England.
My mom, two sisters and I spent 10 days exploring the Highlands, Edinburgh and London last September.
It’s crazy to think that one year ago today we were bundled up with scarves and coats wandering the streets of Edinburgh in the drizzle.
Can you see the inspiration for this fall tablescape?
This image was taken on our way to Isle of Skye. I was dying to see some Highland cows and asked our tour guide to stop if we came across some. We found this group of “coos” on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.
The fog, the fluffy cows and the pink heather growing on the side of the hill all played into my inspiration for this cozy fall table.

My Cozy Fall Table
This fall tablescape all started with this wool blanket that I picked up in Scotland. It is a Stewart tartan plaid that has beautiful tans, rich browns and earth tones. It reminds me of the Scottish Highlands.
Each time I decorate I try to create a space that invokes a feeling. This fall dining room is definitely giving me all the cozy, seasonal vibes. Soft textures, rich patterns and then clean, white accessories.
And I love using items for purposes for which they were NOT intended. For example, take this blanket turned tablecloth. Not only does it add great color, but the soft texture create such a cozy fall table.
And I also used my stoneware water pitcher and filled it with this wheat-looking grass. It has the cutest name too – bunny tails! I love how whimsical and dreamlike it looks.
Simple Fall Table Setting
I kept the rest of this fall tablescape fairly simple.
These stoneware pumpkins have been used in the past for this fall table, and on this fall mantel.
I added a few pillar candles and votives to the pumpkins. To really make it feel like fall, I used some preserved leaves and pinecones, tucking them here and there between the candles and pumpkins.
And the plates that I used here are our everyday dishes from Farmhouse Pottery. They go with everything and are so durable. I use them for every tablescape and never grown tired of them!
I topped each place setting with a soft muted pink linen napkin and gold acorn napkin ring.
Inexpensive Fall Tablescape
Simple, cozy and easy. All of the items that I used for this fall tablescape I had on hand too. You don’t need to buy new each time you entertain.
Shop your home first and see what you can reuse, repurpose or breathe new life into.
These pink linen napkins were originally purchased for a spring brunch. I love how they look on this cozy fall table, don’t you? The color definitely make me think of the wild heather that grows in the Highland area of Scotland.
I don’t know about you, but we have been spending more time with friends gathered around the table for evenings filled with good food, good wine and good conversation.
These days we have more time to enjoy each moment and are not rushing to the next event or appointment. Creating a cozy fall table is the perfect setting for more of these moments with friends and family.
