Breathe new life into your fireplace for autumn. This simple fall mantel incorporates a few of my favorite fall things: golden wheat, velvet pumpkins and some antique treasures.
Fall is all about making your home feel warm, cozy and a sanctuary for your family. And this is never more true than now.
2020 has been a whirlwind of newsworthy events and sometimes it feels like we are living in a combination of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Walking Dead.
My home has never been more well loved and used then now. Do you feel the same way?
I think this fall and winter will mean more time in our homes and why not make them feel extra special, cozy and curated too!
Simple Fall Mantel Idea
This year I decided that less is more. My style has been simplified and pared down. Because as the world outside seems chaotic, I have sought a more simpler approach to decorating.
I also am choosing to not spend money on new decorations. I am reusing and repurposing everything I already own. This is not necessarily in an attempt to save money (although that’s never a bad thing), but rather in an effort to own less and in turn, consume less.
My Neutral Fall Mantel from last year was a nod in this direction.
I loved the warm neutrals and decor that lasted throughout the whole season. Because, there’s nothing better than not having to update your decor too often. Simple is always better, right?
I shopped my home for this simple fall mantel styling. I have this antique cabinet that stores all my accessories and decor. Take a peek inside. It is not organized by any means, but it shows just how many bits and bobs there are to work from.
Do you have a space like this?
Fall Mantel Decorated With Wheat
I’m really into wheat this year. I agree, that sounds totally strange and weird, lol! But, there’s something about the natural warmth and texture that I am drawn to.
I decided to make a large wheat bundle for the focal point of this fall mantel styling. I put three wheat bunches together, tied them up with wire and added this thick grosgrain ribbon. The result is simple, natural and really easy to make.
You will see wheat throughout my fall decor this year. Like I said, I’m loving it lately!
This large wheat bundle set the tone for the rest of my home. A color palette of soft browns, rosy pinks and neutral tones is what I am drawn to right now. I think soft and simple is what’s needed in our haven for 2020.
Fireplace Decorated With Antiques
I love using vintage finds and antiques, especially during the fall season. There’s just something about the patina and history that feels perfect during this time.
These antique brass candlesticks have such a pretty patina. The soft gold isn’t too harsh or bright and compliments the wheat. Paired with some old books and some of my favorite velvet pumpkins, it’s a perfect addition to this simple fall mantel.
Tips for Decorating Your Mantel For Fall
If you are thinking about decorating your mantel for fall and want to keep it simple, here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Use some natural elements. Wheat, preserved leaves or pampas grass are beautiful for fall. And of course, don’t forget about pumpkins!
- Use books to add height and ground smaller objects. Stack them horizontally or vertically to add interest.
- Add in some antique or vintage items. And don’t worry about polishing that silver too much!
- Candles are always a good idea in the fall. Whether it be candlesticks or your favorite fall scented candle, the glow from the flame adds life and light to your fall mantel.
And my number rule for decorating is always not to think too hard about it. Do what you like and what makes you happy!
Decorating is all about infusing your personality and style into your home. So, go for it and don’t be afraid to try something new!

Your mantel is gorgeous. I love vintage finds and the wheat bunch is lovely! I totally agree with everything you wrote. I’ve never felt the need for home and comfort more than now. I love your styling storage cabinet. I store all my styling stuff on Ikea shelves in our basement. I’m currently purging and weeding this area out by reselling and donating but keeping all my favs. xx
