Decorate a tabletop Christmas tree with a vintage ornament collection for a unique holiday decor idea.
Do you collect vintage ornaments? Each holiday season I pull out my collection of vintage glass ornaments and find a new way to display them. This year I filled this small tabletop Christmas tree with these bright and colorful ornaments and I love how they look!
I will share my favorite places to find vintage ornaments and more details on this Christmas tree decorating idea.
Vintage Ornament Christmas Tree
I started collecting vintage glass ornaments in my 20’s. I have always been drawn to vintage and antique pieces, especially for the holidays. And I love how bright, cheerful and unique these ornaments are. There are details in these baubles that you just don’t see anymore. Hand painted designs that are intricate and beautiful.
Some years, I place my vintage ornament collection in a clear jar. And I also usually add a few to our main Christmas tree. But, this year, I decided to dedicate a whole tree to my collection. I love how this turned out and being able to see each ornament on display.
I added these battery-operated candle lights for the perfect nostalgic touch. They are operated by a remote and have a timer feature which I always love.
To the tips of the branches I placed this beautiful frayed velvet ribbon. I love this ribbon so much that you will see this mimicked in our main Christmas tree as well.
Finding something unique and interesting is always a good idea when displaying your tabletop Christmas tree. I found this cute sled at Homegoods a few years ago. It’s the perfect thing to put this vintage ornament Christmas tree in don’t you think?
This cute tabletop tree is placed on top of this vintage Louis Vuitton trunk that I found at Elsie Green. Actually, it isn’t an authentic LV trunk, but an antique wooden trunk that a previous owner covered in LV material. Either way, I love it and think it’s the perfect surface to display this vintage Christmas ornament tree.
Where to Buy Vintage Ornaments
Since I have been hunting and shopping for vintage ornaments for over 20 years, I have found the best places to find them. And with the invention of the internet, it sure does make it easier to source them!
Flea Markets and Vintage Faire’s
I have found some of my favorite vintage glass ornaments at flea markets and vintage faire’s. Locally, my favorite one is the Alameda Point Antique Faire. People come from all over the country to sell their antique and vintage finds the first Sunday of every month. Get up early and be the first one to shop if you want to find the good stuff!
Etsy or Ebay
You can find some really great collections of vintage ornaments from all over the world on Etsy and Ebay. A few years ago I found a box of Russian glass ornaments from the 1960’s. It took forever to arrive but it was worth the wait! Since the listings change so often, I like to look every few weeks to see what’s out there. I’ve linked a few great finds for you here:
